Evident began as a business within Olympus’ Scientific Solutions Division. With more than a century of innovation in optical technologies, Evident has built a world-class reputation for precision, reliability, and technical excellence in life science and industrial imaging.
In 2023, Bain Capital acquired the business, which had been rebranded before the carve-out, and made it an independent company. With Evident, we saw the rare opportunity to acquire a high-quality Japanese technology platform with strong global reach. Our Japan team’s long-standing relationship with Olympus, combined with our global experience in complex carve-outs and transformation, positioned us to partner with management and accelerate the company’s next phase of growth.
Opportunity and investment
Evident operates at the intersection of life sciences, industrial technology, and digital imaging: high-growth markets driven by ongoing advances in healthcare, semiconductor R&D, and advanced manufacturing. Bain Capital saw the opportunity to transform a legacy division into an agile, independent company focused on innovation and long-term value creation.
Our plan centered on simplifying the organization, accelerating product development, expanding into new markets, and improving operational efficiency. Drawing on our cross-platform sector expertise and deep carve-out experience, we worked closely with management to position Evident for sustained growth and strategic flexibility.
Value creation
Since the carve-out, Bain Capital has supported Evident in building a new leadership team, completing organizational restructuring, and establishing a sharper strategic focus. The company has accelerated innovation, strengthened its market position, and in 2025 completed the sale of its test and measurement segment to Wabtec—a milestone that demonstrated execution strength and flexibility in a challenging environment.
Evident now concentrates on its core microscopy and imaging solutions, combining renowned optical precision with advanced digital technology. The 2025 acquisition of Pramana, a pioneer in digital pathology, further strengthened its position as a leader in imaging innovation. Today, Evident empowers scientists, physicians, and engineers worldwide with tools that drive discovery.
